Safety Tips For Riding A Electric Scooter

Electric scooter use is on the rise, and we're already seeing how it has the potential to revolutionize urban transportation as we know it. It is not only convenient, but it may also help to reduce traffic congestion.

Riding an electric scooter can be dangerous if safety precautions are not taken. As riding an electric scooter is not for everyone. In this blog, we will discuss some important points to remember while riding an electric scooter in order to avoid a serious accident.

Keep Your Eyes On-Road

If you're used to riding a bike, you know it's not uncommon to enjoy the scenery and observe whatever is around you - in fact, this applies to everything because humans are naturally inquisitive. This is a terrible habit to develop while riding your electric scooter. You'll be riding on small wheels with limited suspension unless you use a high-end e-scooter. A pothole or a bump in the road can effectively knock you out, and recovering your balance on an e-scooter is extremely difficult for the same reasons.

It may seem obvious, but maintaining your focus on the road and surrounding traffic is critical.

Many injuries can be avoided if you respect the speed you're travelling at, even if it appears to be easy and comfortable.

Use You Both Hand And Keep Them On The Handlebar

Due to the small contact patch on the road, one-arm riding is especially dangerous on electric scooters. When compared to a bike, you're riding on much smaller wheels, which means you have less ground clearance for cornering and are more sensitive to bumps and jolts.

We constantly use both hands to make slight adjustments that even out our balance point while riding. When we remove one (or both) hands from the equation, you only have one hand to adjust with, which is obviously difficult if the e-scooter begins to tilt in the opposite direction.

Wear A Helmet

There are always things out of your control on the road. Inattentive drivers are common, as is human error. Because not all accidents are avoidable, how you prepare for one is critical.

Guys, wear your safety gear. This can mean the difference between life and death, or between a wheelchair-bound existence. Wearing a proper helmet is the most important piece of safety equipment out of all of them.

Before Looking Back Or Turning Slow Down

When people look back over their shoulders, one of the most common accidents occurs. This is common when you need to check to see if there are any cars behind you before making a turn.

The problem here is that you can easily lose your balance as your focus point shifts and your body weight shifts. When your body is out of balance and you're looking behind, it's nearly impossible to make small balance adjustments.

Always slow down when looking back to reduce the risk. It will be much easier to keep the electric scooter balanced, and the impact with the ground will most likely be less severe. If you're looking back to cross the street, I recommend coming to a complete stop and taking a stance, like a speeding car close by could easily throw you off balance as well.

Maintain Your Electric Scooter Properly

Electric scooters, like any other motorized vehicle, require routine maintenance as riding wears them down. Although your scooter may be ready to use right away, it will eventually require maintenance to function properly.

  • Always check if the tyres are properly inflated or not.

  • Check that the folding mechanism is securely fastened.

  • You should make sure that your electric scooter brakes are working properly.

  • Check for any loose bolts or screws.

  • Make sure your brake discs are not bent.

It is critical for the rider's safety to keep your scooter set up optimally at all times. When you receive your scooter, make sure to carefully read the manual and become acquainted with its construction. You don't have to be a mechanic to understand the basics, and knowing that the technical side of your electric scooter protection is up to par will give you peace of mind.

Proper Lightning

Proper lighting is something that many electric scooters lack. It becomes dangerous to ride electric scooters in low-light environments. When you're out at night, you want to be able to see the road ahead as well as for others to see you. Most e-scooter front lights simply lack the power required to properly illuminate the path ahead of you, so we highly recommend purchasing an external one with more lumens and mounting it on your handlebar.

Taillights do not need to be as bright as headlights even though they do not need to illuminate anything - they are simply there to clearly show your position. The ones on your e-scooter are usually bright enough, but their low position near the ground can be an issue.

Eye Protection Is Must

Bugs getting in your face - and sometimes in your eyes is one of the most annoying things that happens all the time when riding at reasonable speeds. Sometimes it becomes quite annoying but as well dangerous too.

It will take your focus from the road. To get rid of the bug that could be stuck behind your eyelids, you'll usually scratch your eye with one hand. This, however, directly contradicts one of the previous safety recommendations.

A pair of riding sunglasses can protect you not only from annoying flies and bugs but also from the blinding summer sun.

Summing Up

The best way to address the aforementioned common issues is to prevent them from occurring in the first place. Taking good care of your electric scooter before, throughout, and after riding would not only prevent damage but will also extend its life expectancy and save you from unnecessary accidents.
